Under-sized and Aging Administration

A significant portion of elementary schools in the district have not had their MPRs and Administration buildings significantly modernized since their original construction. These structures, sized more modestly for smaller student populations and minimal student services are woefully undersized to accommodate the current amount of services provided to students on a daily basis. The result is the use of portable structures or classroom spaces to accommodate these services elsewhere on campus. Many campuses have the potential to realize increases in classroom spaces if services are moved out of classrooms to smaller, more appropriately sized spaces within an expanded administration building. Properly sized conference rooms and offices to service professionals.

In analyzing the condition of Administration and MPR buildings, two approaches have been recommended:

  1. Replace and reconstruction the existing structures with larger more appropriately sized structures. In some instances, reconstruction also allows for the relocation of the administration building to generate additional area for expanded drop off and parking.
  2. Renovation and Expansion. As existing structures are constructed of wood and basic materials, additions and renovations to existing structures are possible as a more economical solution to replacement.
